Brian has worked in financial services for over 3 decades, holding senior positions with a number of diverse UK and international entities.
He had more than 21 years with the Barclays Group, for whom he was for 10 years responsible for the management of group-wide relationships and sponsor of credit for UK financial institutions, specialising mainly in the Building Society sector, some members of which he helped bring to the debt markets for the first time. He also held middle market corporate (SME) lending and credit committee roles for the Group.
In 2000, he joined Singer & Friedlander (S&F), holding simultaneously the roles of Group Head of FIs and Assistant Director running a portfolio of SME borrowers. He led S&F's debut public debt issue in 2005, graduating to become Head of Investor Relations (IR) the following year.
Shortly after S&F's acquisition by Kaupthing, Brian became Group Head of Debt IR for the latter, being responsible for all communications with a diverse portfolio of debt stakeholders spread across four continents.
Brian decided to form his own consultancy in 2009, advising a number of FI and corporate clients on a variety of debt, IR and banking issues. The most significant of these was Singers Asset Finance, whom he helped to raise a substantial amount of new external debt via a securitisation, and then to sell the company into private equity hands, despite being owned by a bank in administration.
Brian's main specialist sectors are financial institutions and asset finance with an additional leaning towards SMEs, his product set mainly surrounding the areas of debt, IR and money transmission. He has a wide array of market contacts and experience as both buyer and seller, lender and borrower in the markets.
He specialises in developing new roles and is a seasoned campaigner in writing articles for trade journals, including the FT. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a member of the Institute of Directors and of the IR Society.
